ABOUT

Established by Sonel Breslav in 2012, Blonde Art Books is a publisher and organization dedicated to promoting self-published and small press art and poetry books through exhibitions, book fairs, symposia, and online exposure.

The blog strives to disseminate information about independent publishers and bookstores, artist and exhibition opportunities, and book production and funding resources.

Blonde Art Books curates exhibitions that examine the connections between traditionally exhibited artwork and the books, magazines, and other printed matter that inform and shape their conception. They have organized exhibitions and events at venues such as MoMA, PS1, Queens, NY; Independent Curators International, NY; Printed Matter, NY; Knockdown Center, Queens, NY; ICA, Philadelphia, PA; Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh, PA; Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH; Hyde Part Center, Chicago, IL; Schema Projects, Brooklyn; Present Company, Brooklyn; SIGNAL, Brooklyn.

Examples of this model of  presentation is the exhibition:  Dust: The plates of the present, February 2013 – July 2015 (September 15 – October 17 2015), Cold Open Verse in collaboration with Poet Transmit (Victoria Keddie and Cat Tyc) which led to a feature length book trailer reel that premiered at the NY Art Book Fair 2017 at MoMA I PS1, Queens, and was exhibited as part of a weekend-long exhibition and performance series at Knockdown Center, Queens, This Summer…  at U:L:O: Part II, Interstate Projects, Brooklyn (June 18 – August 3, 2014), The scenery changes three times at Schema Projects, Brooklyn, NY (March 2 – March 31, 2013) and  Render Visible at Present Company, Brooklyn, NY (September 30 – October 28, 2012).

In addition, Blonde Art Books sponsors and collaborates with other organizations in producing lectures, poetry readings and experimental sound-based performances, book launches accompanied by informative discussions, book binding workshops, screenings, and educational programming. An important example is the annual BABZ FAIR (formally the Bushwick Art Book & Zine Fair) 2013-2017.
