The Dance of Words
Regis Center for Art, University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN)
The Dance of Words is a group exhibition of contemporary art which references and/or incorporates the calligraphic traditions found in many languages. The exhibition will highlight the interactions between the visual iconography of words and their literary and symbolic significance. The exhibition will include work by the artist Ayad Alkadhi and a juried group of artworks referencing diverse calligraphic traditions. Artists residing in the state of Minnesota and over the age of 18 are eligible. All media will be considered. Artworks in the exhibition will not be for sale. The exhibition will take place February 25 through March 15, 2013.

The Arrowhead Biennial Exhibition is a showcase for Midwest art and artists. For our 59th exhibition we continue to cast our net wide — artists residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, and Ontario are all eligible to submit work. Original artwork in any medium completed in the last two years will be considered. Works cannot exceed 60″ or 50 lbs.

The Center for Book Arts invites applications for Letterpress Printing & Fine Press Publishing Seminar For Emerging Writers. The next section of this seminar is scheduled for the Fall of 2012. The seminar is tuition free for participants and includes the cost of materials. Those selected must attend the entire five-day workshop.

Artist-in-Residence

The Center for Book Arts is pleased to continue the Artist-in-Residence Workspace Grant for New York Emerging Artists program in 2013. Up to five New York-based emerging artists will be offered space, time and support to explore the production and exhibition of artist’s books and related work in year-long residencies. The purpose of this program is to promote experimentation in making book art, thus artists from all disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The Center especially encourages applications from artists of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Crossroads celebrates the diversity within the contemporary book arts field and is open to artwork in book format or other formats that tell a story. We are looking for book art that deals with the concept of a borde — in content, materials or personal interpretation. Artwork size is limited to 40″ in any direction.
